 What's New for the 2018 Volvo XC60?

Even with a crowded compact luxury crossover market, the Volvo XC60 is able to stand out due to its ability to blend style and functionality without compromising either attribute. The 2018 model year marks the beginning of the vehicle’s second generation of production, and its complete redesign brings three trims along with it. They are the Momentum, R-Design, and Inscription.

Equipped with standard all-wheel drive, the 2018 Volvo XC60 has a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline 4-cylinder engine that produces 250 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque as a T5 model or 316 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque as a T6. Paired with the engine is an 8-speed automatic transmission.

A five-seater, the 2018 XC60 offers a peak cargo capacity of 63.3 cubic feet—with the rear seats folded down. Leather upholstery, 10-way power-adjustable front seats with 4-way power lumbar support, and a driver-side memory system are standard. Upper-level additions or enhancements include upgraded Nappa leather, seat heating and ventilating ability, power-folding ability on the rear seats, and even a front-seat massage feature.

Standard comfort and convenience features include cruise control, Bluetooth® connectivity for hands-free phone operation and audio streaming, a power moonroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, SiriusXM® satellite radio service, Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ phone integration, a 10-speaker 330-watt stereo system connected to a 9-inch color touchscreen, a remote central locking system, an 8-inch digital driver display, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and a four-year complimentary Volvo On Call subscription for remote dashboard access.

For even more comfort and convenience, Volvo provides options or upper-level equipment like four-zone automatic climate control, a navigation system, a keyless entry-and-drive system, a larger 12.3-inch digital driver display, and a hefty 15-speaker Bowers and Wilkins sound system. The XC60 is reputed as being one of the safest crossovers on the road, having received a “Top Safety Pick” designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). It’s not that it has the safety technologies expected of modern-day vehicles, such as airbags (seven of them), rear park assist camera, hill start assist and hill descent control, daytime running lights, four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, and electronic stability and traction control. Even at the base level, the XC60 is stuffed with advanced safety equipment, which includes oncoming lane mitigation, lane keeping aid, run-off road mitigation and protection, collision mitigation with active braking, road sign recognition, automatic braking after a collision, and a driver drowsiness monitor. These features are part of a collection of technologies that Volvo calls IntelliSafe. Regarding the IIHS designation, the crossover earned it by scoring the top-level “Good” rating in all of the organization’s crashworthiness test categories, the top-level “Superior” rating in front crash prevention ability, and an “Acceptable” rating in headlight effectiveness.
